H2Accelerate TRUCKS consortium meets in Lyon as hydrogen truck deployments gain momentum

The H2Accelerate TRUCKS partners gathered in Lyon for their latest General Assembly, hosted by Hyliko, to align on the next phase of heavy-duty hydrogen truck deployment.

On 21–22 October 2026, the H2Accelerate TRUCKS partners gathered in Lyon for their latest General Assembly, hosted by the French hydrogen truck supplier Hyliko, to discuss upcoming truck deployments and further strengthen collaboration across the consortium.

The meeting provided an opportunity for truck manufacturers, hydrogen refuelling station (HRS) providers, and research project partners to exchange insights and coordinate the next steps in the rollout of hydrogen and fuel cell-powered heavy-duty transport across Europe. Discussions focused on ensuring that vehicles, infrastructure and dedicated monitoring tools are developed in parallel to support operators and drivers during the upcoming demonstration phase and the expansion of fuel cell electric truck operations.

With funding from the Clean Hydrogen Partnership, the project is now moving from preparation to implementation, and partners shared updates on vehicle deployments and fleet maintenance network. Hyundai Hydrogen Mobility and Hyliko have already deployed their first vehicles funded by the project and are currently operating these in France, Germany and Switzerland, marking an important milestone for the project. Scania and Volvo Trucks have also entered their testing and fleet-launch preparation phases for their hydrogen vehicles. From the HRS providers’ side, further infrastructure deployments are planned in the coming months and years, as the project continues to expand across key European transport corridors.

The General Assembly also included a visit to Hyliko’s facilities, where consortium members gained first-hand insight into the hosting company’s approach to retrofitting diesel trucks with fuel cells and hydrogen storage tanks. The visit showcased the entire value chain, from vehicle design and integration of the fuel cell technology to maintenance and operational support and concluded with vehicle test drives.

As more trucks enter operation and the supporting refuelling network continues to grow, H2Accelerate TRUCKS is gaining momentum and entering an exciting new phase. The meeting served as a valuable forum for partners to align priorities, share experiences, and thereby paving the way for large-scale deployment of hydrogen trucks in Europe.
